[Hinews] SEOUL, South Korea — On July 17, Korea University Anam Hospital’s Urology Department announced it had completed its 3,000th robotic surgery—becoming the first department in the hospital to achieve this milestone.

The department launched its robotic surgery program in July 2007. It reached 1,000 procedures by 2019 and doubled that figure to 2,000 by 2023. Most robotic procedures have focused on bladder, prostate, and kidney cancers, leveraging robotic platforms for minimally invasive, high-precision surgery. Some surgeries are now performed exclusively with robotic techniques, reflecting continuous innovation and research within the department.

Robotic surgery has since expanded to include female urological reconstruction and the treatment of kidney stones. The department’s physicians also collaborate with international medical societies and academic institutions to refine surgical techniques and share clinical insights.
A hospital spokesperson emphasized the achievement, saying, “With years of experience and continuous innovation, we are enhancing both patient safety and surgical precision.”
