[Hinews] Incheon, South Korea — On July 21, The Catholic University of Korea Incheon St. Mary's Hospital held a ceremony to honor Professor Jung Jun Kim, director of its Robotic Surgery Center and a urology specialist, for completing 2,000 robotic urological surgeries, marking the fastest such achievement at a single institution in South Korea and by the youngest surgeon.

Professor Kim, who began performing robotic surgeries at the hospital in 2019, accomplished this milestone in just six years. An expert in robotic surgery for renal and prostate cancers, Kim pioneered the clinical use of ischemia-free partial nephrectomy in South Korea, a procedure that preserves kidney function while excising cancerous tissue. He has performed over 800 such surgeries, a record unmatched in South Korea and among the highest in Asia.

Kim has also advanced robotic surgical techniques for adrenal tumors, bladder cancer, and other urological malignancies, cementing his role as a leader in South Korea’s urological robotic surgery field.

During the ceremony, Intuitive Surgical Korea, the manufacturer of the da Vinci robotic surgical system, officially recognized Kim’s 2,000-case milestone and commended his dedication to patient-centered surgical care.
“This milestone reflects the trust patients have placed in our efforts to enhance treatment,” Kim said at the event. “I am committed to continuing compassionate care to support patients in their fight against cancer.”
