PFA employs high-intensity electric fields to selectively target and ablate cardiac cell membranes, reducing the risk of collateral damage to adjacent structures such as the esophagus or nerves. This approach enhances safety and shortens recovery periods for patients.
Atrial fibrillation, a prevalent arrhythmia characterized by irregular and rapid heartbeats, heightens the risk of serious complications, including stroke and heart failure. The condition is increasingly common among individuals over 65, with a growing number of cases reported among those in their 50s.

“Pulse field ablation offers shorter procedure times and a reduced risk of damage to tissues beyond the heart, improving patient safety and quality of life,” said Professor Jin-Sun Park. “This technology is poised to become a new standard in arrhythmia treatment.”
Building on this achievement, Hanyang University Hospital’s cardiology department plans to advance personalized care and integrate innovative technologies to enhance patient-centered treatment for arrhythmias.
